Assistant Secretary Christopher Ford Travels to Belgium and the United Kingdom

Office of the Spokesperson

Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation Assistant Secretary Christopher A. Ford travels to Belgium on December 13-14 and the United Kingdom on December 16-20.

In Belgium, Assistant Secretary Ford will attend the European Union Nonproliferation and Disarmament Conference where he will join a panel of experts to discuss new trends and challenges in nonproliferation and disarmament.  He will also deliver remarks on arms control in a changing world.

In the United Kingdom, the Assistant Secretary will attend the 24th Wilton Park nuclear nonproliferation conference, which evaluates nonproliferation and disarmament challenges and opportunities in preparation for the 2020 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference.

Next year, the NPT celebrates the 50th anniversary of its entry into force. The anniversary brings to the spotlight how much has been accomplished to advance international security and how important the NPT is to further progress.  NPT remains as one of the most successful treaties ever negotiated, and all NPT Parties continue to reap its benefits.
