Parliament passes the Criminal Procedure Identification Bill 2022, which will propose to allow the law and enforcement agencies to take biometrics of criminals which includes impressions of a finger, palm, and foot, iris and retina scans, and physical and biological samples.
Also proposes the collection of behavioral attributes including signature, handwriting, or any other examination referred to under section 53 or 53 A of the Indian Panel Code.
In the current situation, investigation agencies are to take the finger and footprint the impression of a limited category of convicts and non-convicted persons. The records shall be retained for 75 years.
