Employment Hero More Like a 'False Hero'

Employment Hero More Like a 'False Hero'

A false hero is a stock character in fairy tales. The character typically appears near the end of a story to claim to be the hero, but through testing, it is revealed that these claims are false. The false hero is usually punished, and the true hero eventually takes their place.

Some of you may have read my piece last month describing my experiences with Sense HR, a platform that claims to be the "Next-Generation HR Software Designed by Experts," but I won't get into that again - just read Sense HR: 'Not Ready for Prime Time'.

After that Senseless experience, I was indeed searching for a hero of sorts; I needed to find a company that would deliver on our HR requirements at an affordable price and with minimal fuss. I do loathe fuss. Enter Employment Hero.

Unfortunately, Employment Hero, after testing, turned out to be a false hero. For starters, as an inducement to subscribe, we were given a number of free days and then watched as those days ran out while we waited for the Hero implementation team to set up our account and then endeavour to make the platform work as described.

Once set up, we realised that the Hero platform was clumsy at best. The add-on payroll option only works one-way. In other words, if you subscribe to Employment Hero HR (as we did) and then add Payroll, you must re-enter all of your employees' details. Additionally, the jobs interface did not work without technical intervention. Jobs posted to the platform did not appear on the page created for our company for nearly two weeks. The Smart Match applicants we received instantly upon posting a job were bogus. And whenever we logged into Employment Hero, we were greeted by an error message in English stating that the website could not connect to our default language, English.

I could go on, but you get the idea. I suppose the lesson here is that there are no more heroes, at least not since Superman died. As for HR software, I'd give this 'hero' a miss.
