Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State
On behalf of the Government of the United States and the American people, I congratulate the citizens of the European Union as you celebrate Europe Day.
For nearly three-quarters of a century, the enduring bonds of shared history, democratic values, and a commitment to peace and prosperity have formed the bedrock of cooperation between the United States and Europe. Our combined efforts ensure that our citizens are more safe, secure, and prosperous. The strong partnership between the United States and the European Union continues to be vital for confronting the COVID-19 pandemic and I am confident we will overcome this difficult time by relying on our sustained cooperation.
This year, we also celebrate the 30th anniversary of our joint Fulbright-Schuman exchange program, which allows Americans and Europeans to travel across the Atlantic to study, conduct research, build enduring friendships, and contribute to the strong people-to-people ties between the United States and Europe.
I extend my congratulations to the Member States, citizens, and institutions of the European Union on Europe Day.
