Dear Friends,

The past five days have brought a war that has deeply affected our community, and today, we are faced with the heart-wrenching reality of the toll it has taken on our own. It is with immense sadness that we share the devastating news of the loss of Yochai Duchan. Yochai was the son of the late Alexander Duchan z"l, who gave his life in service to our nation in 2002 during a battle near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron. Yochai followed in his father's footsteps by serving in the Israel Defense Forces, and tragically, he lost his life in battle near Gaza. We are still awaiting the full details, but our hearts ache for the Duchan family. Yochai leaves behind his mother, an IDF widow herself, and three siblings. Their family has already experienced the immeasurable pain of losing a loved one in the line of duty, and now they must face the unimaginable loss of Yochai. Our hearts cry in pain. In times like these, our community's strength and unity become more critical than ever. The support and love we offer to the Duchan family and to all the families affected by this conflict are what bind us together. Their sacrifice reminds us of the incredible bravery and dedication shown by our soldiers and their families.

Our beloved Yochai z"l in preperations to our Bar & Bat Mitzvah trip to North America with his fellows IDF orphans in the summer of 2010. Yochai, sitting 2nd to the right of his counselors, was a bright, funny, caring and supportive member of our community.

Today I ask that you join us in extending our deepest condolences to the Duchan family and keeping them in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time. We are here for them and will offer whatever support they may need. Together, we can honor the memory of Yochai Duchan and all the brave individuals who have given their lives in service to our nation. We can stand by their families and show them that they are not alone in their grief. In times of darkness, let our unity and support be a beacon of hope for those who need it most.
