Highlighting the achievements of the tourism sector Lok Sabha Speaker put emphasis on health and educational tourism. According to him, India has great potential for sustainable tourism. No need to say that tourism is a potential tool for employment and inclusive development.
After agriculture tourism play a major role in the Indian economy. In many states like Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, UP, and Rajasthan, etc., 50-60% of revenue is generated from tourism. Around 13% of employment is generated from tourism and its allied segments. This segment is feeding around 9 crore people and has a 5% share in GDP.
1st World Tourism Day was celebrated by the United Nations World Tourism Organization on 27th September 1980 as a milestone of achievement. After that, every year on 27th September World Tourism Day is celebrated around the world.
