Over 45 million Indian travelers are expected to explore international destinations by 2029, contributing more than US$ 70 billion to global travel economies. Domestic tourism reached 1.7 billion trips in 2022, recovering strongly from the COVID-19 pandemic, and international arrivals had already crossed 7.5 million in 2024, increasing by 9 % compared to 2023 and 5% over 2019.


According to the Honorary General Secretary of the PATA India Chapter Mr. Sanjeet, the key source markets like America and Europe recorded growth of 20% and 30%respectively compared to pre-pandemic levels. The United States and Canada emerged as top performers, with growth rates of 19% and 30% above 2019. showcasing strong demand for India as a long–haul destination. Turkey Displayed extraordinary growth of 263% over pandemic figures.


Apart from above India had adequate infrastructure.80 international airlines and operate over 3735 flights daily. The transformative project includes 88 new airports and over 1700 aircraft making India the 3rd largest aviation global market. The country also boasts over 20700 branded hotel rooms with more than 15000 key added in 2024 alone. catering to luxury market segments. Additionally, the introduction of 43 UNESCO World Heritage sites and enhanced highway network have reduced travel times, enhancing accessibility.


Adventure Tourism is a powerful avenue for the sustainability of tourism, combining bodies, minds, and souls, offering transformative experiences. According to the President of ATOAI Mr. Ajeet Bajaj adventure tourism market valued globally at $683 billion in 2017 is growing at 21CAGR and is projected to become a trillion-dollar industry by 2024. He highlighted initiatives like the Western Indian Himalayan trail and the Ganga Nature and Heritage trial designed to promote eco-tourism while supporting local communities. ATOAI’s safety guidelines for 29 adventure tourism verticals are already setting benchmarks for the sector.


According to President OTOAI Mr. Himanshu Patil, premium class travel increased by 12% in comparison, reflecting growing demand for comforts and luxuries. Popular destinations like UAE and Europe have shown robust growth, with our bond seat capacity to Europe rising by 35% over 2019. An Emerging destination such as Kazakhstan, Bhutan, and Saudi Arabia is also gaining popularity among Indian travelers.


All three bodies PATA India Chapter, ATOI, and OTOAI stakeholders of the tourism industry shared their views in a press meet held at Hotel Taj Palace in Delhi recently and put emphasis on the simplified visa process and sustainable tourism practices remain top properties.
