Indian Institutions and Universities Rank Among the World's Top 50

According to the 15th edition of the  QS World University by subject, nine Indian Institutions and universities are among the world’s top 50. The Indian School of Mines (ISM) of Dhanbad ranks 20th  globally for Engineering-Minerals and Mining.


Indian Institute of Tech Bombay has been ranked 28th in technology, and IIT Kharagpur is at the 45th spot for Engineering-Mineral and Mining.IIT Delhi bagged the 26th. The two institutions, IIT Mumbai and IITDelhi, have also improved their rank for Engineering-Electrical and Electronic to enter the top 50 list. Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad and Bangalore continued to be among the world’s top 50 for Business and Management Studies.


While the ranking of IIM Ahmedabad is 27th, IIM Bangalore has secured the 40th spot.IIT Madras (Petroleum Engineering) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) (Development Studies) continued to be among the world’s top 50. A global higher education expert said a total of 79 Indian universities, 10 more than last year, feature 533 times across this year’s rankings, marking a 25.7 percent increase compared to the previous edition.


In the latest edition of the QS subject-specific rankings, India has the fifth highest number of new entries behind China, the US, the UK, and South Korea, and ranks 12th for the number of overall entries. It said the high number of new entries featured in the rankings is a trend in that country’s growing higher education ecosystem. Both in terms of size and quality.
