Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the largest waste-to-energy plant at the municipal waste dumping site Pirana in Ahmadabad, Gujarat. According to official sources, the plant has been established under the Public Private Participation (PPP) module. JITF Urban Waste Management (Ahmedabad) Ltd. was selected through a tender process.
The plant's power generation capacity is 15 megawatts per day from one thousand metric tons of solid waste. The total cost of the project is 375 crore.
Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission fixed the electricity rate for power generation from waste at Rs.7.07 per KWH. The contribution of Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam is 6.31 rupees to the company and the remaining 0.76 rupees of AMC will be contributed by GUVNL.
