List of Civilian Prisoners and Fishermen Exchanged Between India and Pakistan


India and Pakistan exchanged lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen who are in the custody of both countries. India in its list 263 Pakistan civilians and 77 fishermen were in its custody. Similarly, Pakistan shared a list of 49 civilian prisoners and 270 fishermen, who are Indians or believed to be Indian, in Islamabad’s custody.


The list was exchanged through diplomatic channels at New Delhi and Islamabad in line with the provisions of the agreement signed between both countries in 2008. Under which such lists are exchanged every year on 1st January and 1st July.


According to ministerial sources, Pakistan was asked to expedite the release and repatriation of 3 Indian civilian prisoners, and 185 Indian fishermen to India whose nationality has been confirmed and conveyed to Pakistan. Also, provide immediate consular access to Indian fishermen, and 22 civilian prisoners who are in the custody of Pakistan believed to be Indian.
