Saima Wazed the daughter of Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will be the next South East Asia Regional Director of the World Health Organization. She will take charge on February 1st of the coming year.
Saima Wazed played a key role in autism, updating the Bangladesh public health rules, as well as enacting the Mental Health Act of 2018 and the National Mental Health Strategic Plan for 2020-2025.
She won the election after a high-decibel battle against Shambu Prasad Acharya from Nepal, who lost by six votes. She will take charge of existing Regional Director Poonam Khetrapal Singh at the Regional Headquarters in New Delhi.
