U.S.-Taiwan Working Group Meeting on International Organizations

On June 21, 2024, the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO) hosted consultations in Taipei with representatives from the U.S. Department of State and the Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The consultations focused on expanding Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the United Nations system and other international fora.

Taiwan’s world-class expertise offers considerable added value in addressing today’s most urgent challenges, including in international public health, food security, aviation safety, and climate change.  Taiwan has a demonstrated capability and willingness to help address global issues and support the international community.  U.S. participants reaffirmed the United States’ longstanding commitment to Taiwan’s meaningful participation in the UN system and the international community, including at the World Health Organization and the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Our support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international fora is in line with our one China policy, which is guided by the Taiwan Relations Act, the three Joint Communiques, and the Six Assurances.
